RIP goodbye

They told us he was peaceful.
Like he had forgotten to wake up,
music still playing on the radio.
His favourite station beating loud.
Beer cans surrounded the floor.
They told us his best friend found him,
they told us the drugs and alcohol did this too him.

My mother told me he chose the wrong path,
and couldn’t get back on track.
He seemed to always choose the bottle.
Over the family that loved him,
over the friends the needed him.
That same bottle took his life away.
This was probably the way he wanted it.
That beer in his hands,
slowly sentenced him, to death.

Silence over the phone says more then the words we speak.
The words so simple.
Yet so delicate
She whispers bye and the sorrow rips through me.
Pain I thought I could hide comes to the surface
I fight to keep the tears in
To stay strong for the ones who need me most
